Mrs. Claire P. Maher passed away Friday March 30th, 2018 at the Center For Hope in Scotch Plains. She was 79 years old.
Born in Manhattan, NY to William Henry and Emile Hagen Purcell, Claire had been a Mountainside resident for nearly 45 years. Mrs. Maher had a long career in education, retiring as the director of the Early Childhood Center at Wagner College in 2012. During her years there, she pursued and received her Master’s degree in early childhood education. An avid reader, Claire had a lifelong love of learning. A dear friend and a loving mother and grandmother, she cherished nothing more than time spent with her family.
Mrs. Claire Maher was predeceased by her parents, and by her husband, William E. Maher, in 1993.
She is survived by her children, John H. Maher and Doug Maher and his wife Tracey; and by her beloved grandchildren, Emily, Liam, Evan, John William, and Kenneth.
Visitation will be held on Monday (tomorrow) between 9 & 11 am at the Dooley Colonial Home 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield, NJ, followed by a service at 11:30.
