Nicola Fusaro passed away at the age of 80 on Thursday May, 10th surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 6, 1937 in Fossalto, Campobasso, Italy to Francesco and Rosaria Fusaro and immigrated to the United States in December, 1965 with his wife Giovanna and their two small children. Upon arriving in New York City he settled his family in Westfield, NJ where he lived the remainder of his life. After arriving from Italy, he briefly worked as a tailor at Wyatt Brothers Clothiers in Westfield. Shortly thereafter he began his tenure at Weldon Materials, where he was a construction foreman for over 40 years retiring in 2008. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 825 throughout his career at Weldon Materials and was a member of the Italian-American Clubs of both Westfield and Scotch Plains.
He enjoyed traveling to his childhood home in Pietracupa, Italy during summer vacations where he would visit with family and friends. He loved performing various home improvement projects together with family and friends and he enjoyed watching his beloved Juventus soccer team prior to Sunday family dinners. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Giovanna, his son Frank and wife Janice Fusaro of Westfield, his daughter Rosann Mondon and her husband Robert of Westfield and his five grandchildren, Nicholas, Maximilian, Jessica, Michael and Megan as well as his brother Vincenzo of Campobasso, Italy along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends both at home and in Italy. Visitation will be Sunday, 5/13 from 4PM to 8PM at Dooley Colonial Home in Westfield and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 5/14 at 10:00AM at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Internment will take place at Fair View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nicola’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association (www.ALZ.org).
