Born in Newark, NJ, Al lived in Harrison, East Newark, and Roselle before moving to Westfield 45 years ago.
After graduating from West Side High School in 1948, Al worked at Otis Elevator in Newark until going into the Army during the Korean Conflict. He served for two years, much of that time a front-line infantryman, and was discharged as a Corporal in 1953.

He also worked as Chief of Staff and acting Chief of Department. Al was instrumental in the creation of the Newark Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit and retired from the Fire Department in 1989.
In his retirement, Al enjoyed traveling, reading, and doing his daily crossword puzzles as well as spending time with family. He was also an active member of the Essex County Retired Police and Firemen’s Association.
