Obituary for Evelyn Pinkham

Print
Evelyn Gray Pinkham, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Evelyn grew up in Elizabeth and graduated from Battin High School, where she participated in cheerleading. After graduation, she worked as a secretary at Empire Trust Co. in New York City where she met her husband of 59 years, Herbert Mansfield Pinkham. They lived in Roselle Park for 34 years, where they raised their five children and were dedicated sports enthusiasts for the town teams, especially wrestling. They were actively involved at Kenilworth Gospel Chapel in Kenilworth. While being a mother and homemaker was her main focus, Evelyn also worked part-time for 26 years as a secretary for the First Presbyterian Church in Roselle.

After retiring in 1991, she and her husband moved to Leisure Village East in Lakewood. There she enjoyed the Quilting Club, Bocce Club and volunteered with the Leisure Times Newspaper. They worshipped with the believers at Bethany Bible Chapel in Silverton and Evelyn was deeply committed to both the Ladies Missionary Projects and Community Outreach activities. In 2015, Evelyn moved to Watchung to be near her children.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband in 2009, her sister, Georgina Obler, and two nephews, Charles and Andrew Obler. Surviving are her children Kathryn Sharp (Donald) of FL, Douglas Pinkham (Nancy) of SC, Nancy Rossman (Charles) of Warren, Robert Pinkham (Aldo Vallecillo) of ME, Margaret Lesnewich (Alan) of New Providence; and grandchildren Tracie Davis (Donazon), Leigh Beike (Aaron), Lindsey Snavely (Matt), Scott Rossman (Jaime), Karen Rossman, Jaclyn Pinkham, Lauren Thomsen (Jake), Kate Lesnewich, John Lesnewich (Laura) and Alexa Lesnewich; and great-grandchildren Ryan, Avery and Finley Beike, McKenna and Emerson Snavely, Charlie, Ruby, and Henry Rossman, and Vivian and Blaise Thomsen, as well as her niece, Virginia Anderson, and nephew, Scott Obler.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, Nov. 16 from 4-7 pm at the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield. A Memorial Service will follow at 7 pm.

Evelyn will be interred with her husband at the Brig General William C. Doyle Cemetery for Veterans in Wrightstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Christian Missions In Many Lands, PO Box 13, Spring Lake, NJ 07762.
