Obituary for Julia V. Ciemniecki Lemke (Vilkelis)

Julia V. Ciemniecki Lemke​

Mrs. Julia V. Ciemniecki Lemke (nee Vilkelis) passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Inglemoor Rehabilitation and Care Center after a recent fall that fractured her pelvis. She was 93 years old.

Born to Julius and Veronika Vilkelis in Vilnius, Lithuania, Juliacame to the United States at the age of 5. She lived in Bayonne, NJ before moving to Piscataway, NJ. Once married, she settledin Kenilworth, NJ where she raised her family and lived for more than 60 years. Julia raised a family of seven children – five boys and two girls. She also managed her husband’s carpentry business, was a member of St. Theresa’s Church Rosary Society, and taught CCD. When her youngest was old enough to be on his own, she went back to school and completed an accounting degree. She worked at several local businesses as bookkeeper before she obtained the position of Payroll Administrator at McCarter & English Law Firm in Newark, NJ, from which she retired at the age of 70.

Julia was a kind, loving, giving individual who’s smile lit up the room. She loved her family and strived to be the best wife, mother, friend and parishioner. She was an excellent bowler in her younger years and took painting lessons later in life. Her artistic talent resulted in beautiful oil paintings of Norman Rockwell reproductions. Several of her paintings were sold to businesses, but the rest remain with her family.

Mrs. Lemke is predeceased by her parents, sister Anna Parello, first husband Frank Ciemniecki and most recently, second husband William Lemke and daughter Joanne Ply.

She is survived by her brother Walter Vilkelis and wife Helene, children Jeffrey Ciemniecki and wife Terri, Dennis Ciemniecki and wife Ida, Douglas Ciemniecki and wife Susan, Adam Ciemniecki and wife Judi, Karl Ciemniecki and wife Nancy, daughter Alena Galante and her husband Todd, and nine grandchildren – Victoria and Vanessa Ply, Zachary Ciemniecki, John and Lauren Ciemniecki, Kyle and Tyler Ciemniecki, Kayla and Cole Ciemniecki, two nieces and two nephews, a step niece and nephew, two step grand-nieces, and two step grand-nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00 – 4:30 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ 07090. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at The Church of Saint Theresa, 541 Washington Avenue, Kenilworth, NJ 07033. Entombment will be at Graceland Memorial Park, 1900 Galloping Hill Road,Kenilworth, NJ 07033.
