Georgette Howell Grau, 93, passed away on June 21, 2019. She was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, the youngest of Henry and Aurise Howell’s five children. Her family moved to New Jersey when she was 13. She attended Dickinson High School in Jersey City, N.J. and went on to do nurse’s training. She worked at Overlook Hospital as a Unit Secretary for over 25 years before retiring.
Georgette loved to travel. Along with William, Harry, Alice and Ruth Grau, she was a member of the notorious “Montauk Five.” She also enjoyed music and dance, her trips to Atlantic City, weekly Bingo Games, a game of “Kings in the Corner”, and watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune with her family. It cannot go without saying that cats occupied a huge part of her heart - tabby cats, black cats, striped cats - if it purred, she loved it. Above all else, Georgette cherished her family, and enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, William in 2007 and her son, Jeffrey in 2017. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Ferrara, Jennifer Price and her husband James, her sons; Gordon, Marc, and Justin, her grandchildren; Christopher, Jaclyn, Jason, Michael, Joshua, Steven and Chelsea, and her great-grandchildren; Nicholas, Alexander, and Christian.
Visitation will be at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave, Westfield on Tuesday June 25 from 4-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday June 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 16 E. Somerset St., Raritan. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
